Fiction Factory

By 3rd December 2019

Fiction Factory was formed in Perth in 1983 and is best known for their hit (Feels Like) Heaven which reached Number 6 in the UK Singles Chart, and the Top 10 in Belgium, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

The Scottish New Wave group consisted of Kevin Patterson (vocals), Eddie Jordan (keyboards), Chic Medley (guitar), Graham McGregor (bass guitar) and Mike Ogletree (drums and percussion), a former member of Simple Minds and Café Jacques.

Before they began Fiction Factory, Patterson, Jordan and Medley played in skinhead ska band The Rude Boys, later shortened to The RB’s.

The band’s first album Throw the Warped Wheel Out was released in 1984. The group disbanded in 1987 after the release of their second album Another Story, however their music has lived on, and (Feels Like) Heaven, written by Patterson and Jordan, has become an enduring favourite over many years.

The group reformed for a special Rewind Festival performance in 2011, and in 2016 the Manic Street Preachers covered (Feels Like) Heaven for the album BBC Radio 2 Sounds of the 80s, Volume 2. In 2019 (Feels Like) Heaven was used in Netflix’s ‘The Umbrella Academy’. Fiction Factory will also be appearing on BBC 1’s The One Show in early 2020.

Scottish drummer and guitarist, Mike Ogletree, now lives and works in the USA, but will be returning to Scotland to rejoin his fellow artists for the DunDee 80s concert, and to revive Fiction Factory’s repertoire of eclectic New Wave pop.
