Combo Platters

The combo platter is the simplest, most generous way to order at Taste of Ethiopia. Each one arrives on a large round of injera covered with seven to ten small mounds of different dishes — built to be shared, eaten with your hands, and finished communally. If it's your first time, this is the way to order.

Vegetarian Combo

Our most-ordered dish, in any category. Built for two to four diners. Typically includes:

  • Misir wat (red lentils in berbere)
  • Kik alicha (yellow split peas in turmeric)
  • Shiro (chickpea purée)
  • Gomen (collard greens)
  • Atkilt wat (mild cabbage, potato, carrot)
  • Fosolia (green beans and carrots)
  • Tikil gomen (cabbage and potato)
  • Dinich wat (spicy potatoes)
  • Timatim salata (tomato salad)

A round of injera covers the bottom, and you order extra rolls on the side. More on the vegetable dishes

Veggie Combo (smaller)

A smaller version of the Vegetarian Combo, sized for one to two diners. Includes a curated selection of the most-ordered vegetable dishes rather than the full sweep. Same plate, fewer items.

Meat Combo

Designed for two to four diners. Typically includes:

  • Doro wat (chicken in berbere, with hard-boiled egg)
  • Key wat (beef in berbere)
  • Awaze tibs (sautéed beef in awaze)
  • Doro alicha (mild chicken in turmeric)
  • Two or three vegetable sides — typically gomen, misir, and atkilt

Combination for Two (B1 / C3)

Several long-time customers order by code. "B1" and "C3" — both combos for two — are off-menu names regulars have been using for years; just ask your server for either and they'll know what you mean. From a Sirved review: "We both love B1 and C3 on our meal for two. The bread is to die for."

How to Eat the Combo

  1. The injera under the food is part of the meal. So is the injera on the side.
  2. Tear off a piece of side injera with your right hand.
  3. Use it to pinch up a bite of one of the dishes — no fork.
  4. When the top is gone, the injera beneath it has soaked up all of the sauces. That is the best bite. Save room.

What to Drink With It

Most of our diners order one of our fresh-pressed juices, the honey wine (tej), or a local beer. The coffee ceremony comes at the end of the meal. Drinks menu
